Summer is such an easy season in many parts of the world; no coats, no snow or ice, just good times every time you step outdoors. The sun, salt water, chlorine, and heat, however, can all take their toll on your skin.
Here are a few tips to keep your skin protected and in great condition.
#1 Love your sunscreen
It should be your best friend all summer long. Any skincare routine you use in summer MUST include sunscreen. If you don’t cover up, then remember that the sun is closer and stronger in the summer. Coupled with the wind and salty atmosphere, it’s very easy to get sunburn.
Pools, rivers, and the ocean will all reflect the sun back at you, so remember to cut your exposure time where possible.
#2 Protect your lips
Lips also require an SPF protection, so be sure to include them in your skin care.
#3 Stay hydrated
Make sure that you’re drinking plenty of water morning and evening. During the day, it’s best to include something with a little salt and glucose so that you’re replacing electrolytes lost through sweating.
#4 Eat healthily
Eating a healthy, balanced diet is the best thing for your skin, but summer is also temptation time, when ice creams and salty fries are everywhere.
Try snacking on salted almonds (rich in vitamin E), and berries instead. Green vegetables are also an excellent supply of minerals and vitamin D. Now is the time for ripe tomatoes, spinach, Swiss chard, and fresh herbs such as rosemary, sage, parsley, and basil.
And oats are rich in Zinc, which is important for the sebaceous glands that lubricate your skin.
#5 Cover up in direct sunlight
Wear a hat and sunglasses, and light, long-sleeved tops. This is especially true for children as they tend to burn very quickly.
Replenish your skin and theirs with skin cream at the end of each day.
