Summer Health Tips
Summer is about the best time of the year. For many, it’s vacation time and you can get out and enjoy the weather. So, how can you have a safe and healthy summer?
Here are some tips for staying healthy in warm weather.
#1 Drink lots of water
Your body needs more fluid in warmer weather. It’s important to drink 8 to 10 glasses of water every day.
Load up on fluid in the morning and evening. If you only drink when you’re in the sun, you’ll sweat out all your electrolytes and feel ‘washed out.’ If you do get dehydrated, add a little salt and some honey to a tall glass of water and you’ll feel better.
#2 Stay in the shade
You’ll tan without lying in the sun all day. Anytime between 10am and 4pm, when the sun is strongest, you should limit outdoor activities.
Be sure to wear sunglasses. Summer days are wonderfully bright, but sun damage can affect your eyesight when you’re older.
#3 Eat healthily
This is the season when so many fruits and vegetables are ready to be eaten. Stop at farmers’ markets and buy blueberries, cherries, melons, and fresh veggies which you can eat raw as well as cooked.
Make room in your diet, every day, for these delicious foods.
Take time away from screens, including games and the internet. It can be done!
It’s good for your eyes, and summer is the most social time of year.
#5 Focus family activities around exercise
Planning on visiting museums? Use the stairs.
Need to get from one side of the city to the other? Walk.
Use your bicycle every day and get your family to go with you. There’s nothing like being happy and active during these summer months.
Being healthy this summer is something that can benefit you and your family all year round.
